What should I do if my client wants to know the price immediately?

imagenprecios.jpgThis is a questions posted to Cyan, from FreelanceSwitch.comand it’s indeed something really common. You have a possible client, and the very first thing that he comes up with is the “M-Questions”. And you find yourself riddled  by the questions, because you don’t even know the answer, when you’re supposed to.

You need to educate them, you need to remember them that your work as a designer is something more than just drawing. Your work is something that doesn’t fall from the sky, just remember them what your mission as a designer is all about.

You can for example start explaining them that you need to do some research before the design can appear, it doesn’t work by waving a little wand out of your pocket. If you’¡re doing a logo, you need to know the trends and see how you can apply them into your design. Explain to them the amount of time this can take you. Try to explain everything in  a comprehensible language. Don’t rush into a price. Tell him that you can send him an e-mail with all the details of the design, including the price as soon as you get home.
