artegami1 The right size for a web page?

Whenever I have to post, I give my articles a little personal twist to make them a little bit more user-friendly. This article is originally from TejedoresDelWeb.com, and I just found it so well written that I only had to copy/paste it to my site, simply because it’s just great the way it is.

The right size for a web page is variable, and it’ll depend on various aspects. For example, the main page has to be light and it has to load fast, light yes but with enough information available to guide readers on what is that they’re going to find in there. The internal part of the page can be a little more louded and slow, as long as the waiting is worth it.

The right size will also depend on the theme or subject of the page itself, for example, if it’s a multimedia web page, the visitor is expected to have a higher band width connection.

The best thing to do is to test the speed of your page in loading. In order to do this, there’re some pages like WebSiteOptimization.com, where you place the address of a specific web site and you obtain a simulation of the time it might take for it to be seen for a visitor with  56K modem connection or even high speed ADSL and many others.

Once you have these results, it’s not only necessary to optimize the page, but also the images in it. The image editing programs like GIMP provide many options for JPEGs by compressing and optimizing them. A good optimization may mean a substantial band width saving for both the site and the users.
