Prepare the client for the creative process
14 Sep, 2007Once the clients calls you to develop a certain design, he/she will already have a preconceived idea of the way that design should look like, and the way he/she desires it to look like. Remember, as a designer, you need to follow your client in his line of thought at your best so you can fulfill his goals.
The client will try to play “the designer” and he/she will try to be the one taking the decisions and taking control over the creative process. That’s when you have to start to him advices about the possible concepts that might help him/she to carry his message to the aimed audience. This is the moment when the idea exchange starts. Listen carefully to what he/she has to say, and even you can take notes about his thoughts, and then discard the rest.
Never critic your clients ideas. Always try to explain to him why you discard some of the ideas, so he/she can have a better comprehension of the way you’re going to create the design.
