Creatives think that a complex site is better than a simple one

I don’t quite understand why some creatives in publicity agencies think that in the “avant-garde” internet, everything has to be complicated.

If you talk to them about your site, they’ll ask you for sure for a more “creative” interface, when in the real life, as many of you already know, if you have a too “flash-y” website google won’t index you.

The other thing is that they don’t like the “user-friendly” navigation through the site, the y like hidden menus in a weird part of the site, something like a picture that when you put the mouse over, it morphs into the menu.

The great problems this has is that if the user can’t find the menu, he or she will get frustrated and will leave the place instantly.

Among the creative plans of installation they want a flash intro with the top notch in animation, of course the user will have to stay 10 minutes waiting for it to come up. But just click on “skip intro”, they will think.

There is another “great” creative plan that says that you need to add videos everywhere, videos that will make the site heavy as hell. Making the site slow like a turtle.

It’s really tough to drill the idea into their narrow minds that a good site doesn’t need to be so complicated nor heavy to work properly. Not everyone has a SUPER fast Internet connection.
