Common errors when designing a web site
For many people it’s really easy to design a web page, but for others it’s a nightmare. What really matters is to avoid the following errors:
Loading time:
Unless the visitor is waiting to watch a video, your loading time should not exceed more than 3-5 seconds. Remember people is going into your site to find content, and if they can’t see it there, they’ll find it somewhere else.
The navigation menu changes:
This reminds me of a friend that told me once how he hated those web pages that everytime you click somewhere the whole menu changes. Imagine millions unhappy for the same reason.
Broken links:
Don’t you all hate Error 404?
Links mixed up:
Try to be as specific as you can with the links that will get you to any other page. With a different font color or type. Just make sure there’s a good difference.
There’s no meta audience:
A well designed web site must have a purpose and a specific audience. After reading a couple articles, you should be able to find the topic of the web page.
Using crazy colors:
Here comes the funny part. If a color works when printed, it’s not necessarily going to work online.
“It looks better with”:
I’ve already spoken about this, but it’s worth mentioning it again. All modern web pages should be designed to be viewed in any explorer program.
Clicking without control:
If you’d like to stay on the same page all day long, leave it like that. If you want people to find info quickly, redesign it.
Too many ads:
We have to limit the expose from our sponsors to our readers. Is it really necessary to have 10 pop-ups on the same page?
Type-O’s:
It’s hard but we all have to try.
No contact information:
If you don’t have any contact information, you’ll be loosing potential customers.
