A clean and simple design

A good web design must have images and text in equal proportions. If you should a plain text page or 50% of a the page have just text, people will not pay attention to it. In addition, if you include a lot of dynamic effects, applets or Flash the users’ computer might become too slow, or it might crash trying to read all the information. The sites that are constantly loading effects might tired the user.

A well define structure

A good web design must have a well define structure, that let the users browse in an easy way. So he will know where is the information all the time.

Accurate information

If your website is selling a product, the first thing the the user might see is that information. If he have to browse 10 seconds to find it, he will close the window.

The links must be working

Trust me, a lot of people will get frustrate if they will click on a link, and this is broken.

Contrast and Color

A good web design must have a perfect mix of colors. The perfect combination is the one that used all the range of tones of a concrete color, or you can mix other 2 or 3 colors.

Loading time

A good web design must not be heavier than 100kb, I know that a lot of people must disagree, remember that there are a lot of ways to optimize the sites. But you have to remember that the heavier the website, more time it will take to load. And some users might get tired and leave the site.

Fonts and its sides

You can use up to 3 different types of fonts. If you have several types of fonts it will be really difficult to read to content. The sides might not be more than 14 pts, the only exceptions are the titles and the header. Remember that a website is not a book, so avoid the use of serif fonts (like Times New Roman) because the users will get tired trying to read them.

Images

A good web design must have between 2 or 3 images per page.

An easy navigation

A good web design must have a great menu that should remained constantly in the same place. The menu must be easy to access.

Ads

I know and I understand that you want to get some money with your website. Use 2 or 3 ads per page, avoid the “famous” PopUp and his brother the PopUnder.
